Phantasy Star Generation 1 & 2: Sega really needs to do this... now!

Phantasy Star is, was and likely always will be one of my favorite video game series of all-time. Phantasy Star II was my first ever console RPG, and I still have fond memories of the game to this day.

It's been well over a decade since the last installment (not counting those bastardized MMORPGs) and I've noticed a lot of renewed interest lately on retrogaming sites. This could be due in part to Phantasy Star II's recent release on the Wii Virtual Console... or just because the game kicked a lot of arse and that franchise needs to be properly revisited. Now.

One of the greatest tragedies for American fans of the series came a few years ago with the enhanced PS2 remakes of the first two games in the series. Apparently they were supposed to come to the States via Conspiracy Entertainment, but that fell through and any localization of these two fantastic-looking titles looks like it's in limbo.

This. Is. A. Travesty.

SEGA, given how viable the PS2 still is, you really need to rethink bringing these games out over here. Or how about porting those two games to the Wii as WiiWare downloads? I'd much rather take another trip to Algol than participate in virtual binge eating, thank you very much.

Either way, you'll have my money -- and the money of many other Phantasy Star fans no doubt -- if and when you ever decide to bring these games stateside. Then, when they sell like hotcakes, you'll realize just how foolish you've been in holding off on a proper fifth installment.

Really.

In the meantime, look on these videos and despair, American RPG enthusiasts...
