sketchbook: Old concept art from 'Shadowbinders'

Some concept art for a proposed series dated 1999. At this point I was experimenting and I began to inject a manga element into my work, which started out heavily influenced by illustrators such as Brian Froud.

Sadly, I was often told by mainstream editors that the work was "too cartoony." Nearly a decade later, "cartoony" is all the rage. Go figure.
