Floyd Gottfredson in 2006: The Gottfredson Fan Club

As I mentioned yesterday, I've become quite smitten with the work of pioneering Mickey Mouse cartoonist Floyd Gottfredson. 2006 looks to be the year that the late Mr. Gottfredson gets some much deserved recognition in the form of an Eisner nod, so to commemorate the event I propose we show our support by posting some of these lil' GIFs on our web pages.

And a way cool chicklet provided by Gemstone Publishing's very own art director, Travis Seitler! (see mine just above my blogroll!)

Think we should run a Squidoo lens as the club's home page? That'd be interesting... ;)

Oooh. Maybe. There's a lot of information out there on Mr. Gottfredson, but it's all over the place and much of it is outdated. Even David Gerstein's page is dated 1999. And with this being a big year for him at the Eisners and all ... ?

Gemstone ought to publish something like "The Definitive Floyd Gottfredson: The Other Man Behind the Mouse," with comics and his biography. ;)

You're not the first to mention such an idea...

Ah, I did read portions of that thread, but thought they were discussing Mickey Mouse in Color. I didn't catch that someone was calling for an expanded Gottfredson library.

And there could be a foreward, culminating with the hall of fame induction... ?

Sounds like a pretty big undertaking, though. Multiple volumes? Hopefully it wouldn't wind up becoming another Mickey and the Gang. ;)

It'd probably be Mickey and the Gang times 10!

It would be worth it, though. =)

I'd vote for it being done in a similar fashion to Fantagraphic's Peanuts collections.

Hey Bud!

Yeah, I think there's too much for one book. Be nice to have a wood box or something to slip all the volumes from the completed collection into... CHA-CHING!

If I get time, I might Squidoo this weekend.
